The decision
The visible problem is shoes. But the real risk may be attendance.
What would you do?
You chose: “Wait until the family asks for help.”
What happened
No one asks. The student keeps showing up when he can and staying quiet when he is uncomfortable.
Waiting feels respectful, but it also means the problem has to get worse before anyone acts.
That choice addressed part of the moment. But what changes if someone responds to the need differently?
What followed
A few more rainy mornings turn into a few missed mornings. The shoes were never the whole problem. They were the first visible sign.
There is another possibility
What if the response changed before the pressure had a chance to grow?
You chose: “Tell the teacher to keep an eye on him.”
What happened
The teacher watches and confirms what you already noticed. The student is trying not to draw attention to himself.
The information is useful, but the need is still sitting there.
That choice addressed part of the moment. But what changes if someone responds to the need differently?
What followed
The student keeps managing the embarrassment alone. Adults know something is wrong, but no one has activated a resource yet.

You chose: “Have a private conversation and ask what else the family may need.”
What happened
The student admits the shoes are too small. When you talk with the family, you learn several children have outgrown clothes at the same time.
What followed
You place a size-specific clothing order through Trusted World. Shoes and clothing arrive through the partner system. The student does not have to keep choosing between embarrassment and attendance.
What prevention could look like
Trusted World is the system the counselor uses. The counselor remains the hero — the person who noticed early, asked carefully, and acted before the problem became bigger.
